Diane Tucker

EJI won the release of Diane Tucker, a mentally retarded woman who was wrongly convicted and sent to prison for a murder that never took place. Ms. Tucker and her sister, Victoria Banks, were convicted of killing a baby allegedly born to Ms. Banks, a baby she denied ever having. Medical evidence confirmed that Ms. Banks never had a child and that these women and another man charged with the offense were innocent and sent to jail because they were mentally retarded and unable to protect themselves. EJI continues to provide assistance to people with mental illness and disability because people with disabilities are extremely vulnerable in the American criminal justice system.
