Election Day brought significant change to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. Two new judges were elected, and a third seat opened up when current criminal appeals judge Greg Shaw was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court.
The five-member court lost its two longest-serving members with the retirement of H.W. "Bucky" McMillan and Pamela Baschab, who served more than 30 years between them.
The new Place 1 judge is Republican Beth Kellum, currently a staff attorney for the criminal appeals court. Place 2 will be filled by Republican Mary Windom, a deputy attorney general.
Remaining on the court are Kelli Wise, who has been on the court since 2001, and Samuel Welch, who joined the court in 2007.
The governor will appoint someone to fill the vacancy left by Greg Shaw's election to the Alabama Supreme Court.
Alabama judges are elected for six-year terms.
